LLING TE VOID 2026

The Workshop That Started It All. Returns.

2-Day Intensive Workshop | Delhi Studio + Live Online Studio

There are moments that redefine a profession.

And there are workshops that redefine the way designers think.

In 2015, rat[LAB]EDUCATION launched a workshop called Filling the Void.

The "void" represented something that was missing in design education—a gap between architecture and technology, creativity and computation, design intuition and algorithmic thinking.

That single workshop sparked a journey.

Over the next decade, rat[LAB]EDUCATION grew into one of India's pioneering platforms for computational design education, conducting workshops across India and internationally, collaborating with institutions around the world, and eventually launching SmartLabs—India's pioneering six-month hybrid programme in Computational Design.

Today, after years of focusing exclusively on long-format education, we are bringing our most iconic workshop back.

Reimagined.

Updated.

More relevant than ever.

Welcome to Filling the Void 2026.

2015 → Filling the Void

2016–2020 → Summer Schools • Winter Schools • Visiting Schools • International Workshops

2017–Present → SmartLabs

2026 → Filling the Void Returns

Why This Workshop?

Computational design is not software.

It is not Grasshopper.

It is not Rhino.

And it is certainly not about creating complex-looking forms.

Computational design is a way of thinking.

It is the ability to think through relationships instead of objects.

To create systems instead of static models.

To design logic instead of manually repeating actions.

The software simply becomes the language through which these ideas are expressed.

This workshop has therefore been designed around one central idea—

Developing a Parametric Mindset.

Whether this is your very first exposure to computational design or you're looking to strengthen your foundations, Filling the Void 2026 is designed to help you understand not just how computational design works—but why it is transforming the future of design.

Meet Your Coach

Learn Directly with Architect Sushant Verma

Filling the Void 2026 is personally designed, taught and mentored by Architect Sushant Verma, one of India's early pioneers in computational design and digital design technologies.

Over the past fifteen years, Sushant has built a career at the intersection of architecture, computation, education and innovation.

He is the Founder and Studio Director of rat[LAB] Studio, an internationally recognised, award-winning design practice known for its work in iconic façades, computational architecture, digital fabrication, sculptural public art and technology-driven design.

His professional journey includes advanced research in computational architecture, global collaborations, and years of translating emerging technologies into built projects across India and abroad.

Alongside professional practice, he has dedicated more than a decade to transforming design education.

Through rat[LAB]EDUCATION, he has personally trained over 3,000 architects and designers, while his keynote lectures, conferences, workshops, academic collaborations and public talks have collectively influenced more than 100,000 designers towards embracing computational thinking and emerging design technologies.

His work has been presented through international workshops, academic institutions, professional conferences and multiple TEDx stages, with a singular mission:

To make computational thinking accessible, practical and meaningful for every designer.

This workshop is not delivered by trainers following a curriculum.

It is taught directly by someone who has spent over a decade building one of India's leading computational design practices while simultaneously shaping the country's computational design education ecosystem.

Why Learn with rat[LAB]EDUCATION?

For over a decade, rat[LAB]EDUCATION has remained at the forefront of computational design education in India.

Our workshops have evolved alongside the profession itself—from early explorations in computational geometry to today's AI-enabled design workflows.

Unlike conventional software training institutes, our curriculum is built directly from professional practice.

Everything taught in this workshop has emerged from real projects, real challenges and real innovation undertaken at rat[LAB] Studio.

Our philosophy has remained unchanged since the very first Filling the Void workshop:

Teach designers how to think—not merely which buttons to click.

Begin Where It All Began

Some of our alumni discovered computational design through a short workshop.

Many went on to pursue higher education.

Many joined leading international firms.

Many transformed their own practices.

Every journey started with curiosity.

Perhaps yours begins here.
