Scalable Tectonics: Speculative Futures - Stories from the Future is a compendium of the experimental design studio with speculations of the future of built environment, pedagogy, interviews and other thought-provoking insights that took place as a part of rat[LAB]EDUCATION's multi-cultural collaborative workshop at Digital Futures World 2020. The book is an attempt to put together experimental explorations by a global collaborative set of participants from the workshop and features dialogues, interviews & discourses carried out with reputed professionals on future of design, education & technology in these ever-changing times.

Designed in a coffee table format to serve as a collective, the compendium is a knowledge-bank highlighting the changing times in design education having featured dialogues with globally renowned design professionals and academics, while also being an academic guidebook through teaching content from the 4-day workshop Scalable Tectonics by rat[LAB]EDUCATION which took place as a part of Digital Futures World 2020. The book also provides access possibility of video recordings and example files from the workshop which can be procured and downloaded from the author’s website as a learning toolkit for design students and professionals.

About the Authors
Sushant Jai-Amita Verma is an Architect, Design Technologist and an Educator, currently leading rat[LAB] Studio (Research in Architecture and Technology) (www.rat-lab.org) that investigates intersections of design, art & technology through architecture, interior design and art installations. He holds a Masters Degree in Emergent Technologies & Design from Architectural Association, London and is a former architect at Zaha Hadid Architects, London. Being actively invested into academic innovations, he is the leading founder of rat[LAB]EDUCATION, SMART LABS & EDU[LAB] INDIA – unique academic initiatives to advocate use of technology in design through independently-organized design workshops, programmes and online education portals.

Suha Al-Salamain is an award-winning architect with a focus on urban design and workspace interiors. After graduating from the American University of Sharjah with a Bachelor degree in Architecture & minors in urban design and design management, Suha joined Almax Design, a Dubai-based design studio. From drawing fashion illustrations to creating things from scratch, Suha has always been drawn to take on complex challenges that require out-of-the-box solutions. With more than 10 years of rigorous experience under her belt, Suha excels at creating human-centric designs. Her passion & creative flair has honed her design skills to develop new typologies in architecture & design.
